Welcome to the Precalculus Online Course!

I am delighted that you have enrolled in this section, and I hope that you have a great academic term!

This course will teach you the Precalculus Algebra needed for Physics and Calculus.

This online course is challenging, time consuming, and it is not intended for everyone. Only  highly motivated, highly discipline and highly organized students, that can read the book and can learn the material by themselves, are successful in this course. Working with Mathematics should not be an issue for you. Contrary to popular belief, this course is not easier because is online.

This online course uses ‘MyMathLab’, (MML) Addison Wesley’s testing tool over the Internet.  To be able to take this course, you must have a computer, you must know how to use a computer and you should be able to download and install plug-ins, if you plan to use a computer other than the ones in the Mathematics Lab at the East Campus Learning Resource Center. Since this is a Valencia East Campus Course, the computers at the Computer Labs in other campuses may not have the appropriate plug-ins installed.

MyMathLab has a limited tutorial with some videos. Basically you are teaching yourself the material of the course. Our interaction will be mostly through e-mail or by phone unless you come to my office hours.
Since this is an online course, we will communicate mainly via email. When you e-mail me, please write on the subject of your e-mail "Trigonometry Online" (you can just type Trig Online), followed by the nature of your message, so that your e-mail will have priority. To protect my computer from any virus, I will delete without opening any e-mail with no subject. All communications should follow appropriate etiquette. Email should be used in a professional way. Always put identifying information in the subject line so that I know what your message is about. Use appropriate language and include your name so that I know who you are. If you call my office and wish to leave me a voice mail, please repeat your name and telephone number twice; voicemail is used best if you leave a concise, but detailed message.

Now...ready to begin this course? Great! Please click on the link  “Syllabus” so that you can have the basic information of the course. After that, click on the link “MMLRegistration” to learn how to install and begin working with the MyMathLab software. The "Topics/Concepts " link will have the Topics (examples in the book and the material you should read, study and learn) and the Concepts (study guide for all the online tests). Before taking a test, you should come here and review the concepts of that test. The "Schedule 1140" link will have the deadlines for online homework, online quizzes and on-site tests. All the homework and quizzes are already in MyMathLab. In case of technical difficulties, you should work ahead of schedule and not wait until the last minute to do the online work.  The "Homework" section contains the required book homework you should do. Some of the assigned problems in this section are not assigned in MML. The "Calculator" link contains a Calculator Basics link that reviews the basic functions of the TI-83-84 calculator and some web links for using a specific calculator.
Go ahead and go to the links so that you familiarize with the course and the course documents.
Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions. Remember that I am here to help you!

Remember also that an e-mail will get a faster response.

I wish you the best with all your classes!
