Syllabus (Spring Term, 2004)

Daily Schedule (Spring Term, 2004)

The daily schedule includes lesson plans, homework assignments from the textbook, and test dates.

Writing Assignment:

Charles Dodgson (Lewis Carroll), author of Through the Looking Glass and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, used mathematical logic as a basis for his entertaining stories.

Choose a brief excerpt from one of Dodgson's stories and translate it into symbolic form.  Use an excerpt that provides a valid argument.  Show that the argument is valid.

Comment on the goals that Dodgson, an Oxford mathematician, might have had for his written work.  Compare and contrast those goals with the goals that Disney might have had for their animated version of Dodgson's work.  To what extent did Dodgson and Disney meet the goals that you have mentioned?

The writing assignment will be due at the beginning of class on 4/26/04.  Please check your syllabus for additional information.
