VALENCIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Credit Faculty Credentials
Review - Procedural Guidelines
| 1. | Preliminary Check on Faculty Applicants The dean or other assigned supervisor should verify any credentialing history at the college by checking with the Human Resources credentials contact @ extension 8042. This preliminary check may provide useful information and help avoid unnecessary duplication. |
| 2. | Completion of Credit Faculty Credentials Review Packet A specific packet, based on Faculty requirements and guidelines, Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) has been developed for assessment of faculty credentials. This includes an official form (Credit Faculty Credentials Application) which must be completed and signed by the appropriate dean or other assigned supervisor. This form establishes an initial review at the division/department level including response to specific credentialing questions, transcript analysis and a writing sample. |
| Note on Multiple Credentialing: On occasion, individual credentials applications may be reviewed for more than one level. In some cases, multiple credentials forms should be completed, e.g., a transfer assignment (T) status in chemistry coupled with a college prep assignment (D) status in mathematics. Since this data would be compiled by multiple divisions/departments, and perhaps submitted at different times, consolidation of credentials records will be coordinated by the Credentials Secretary. In addition, expansion of a faculty member's teaching assignment to a new academic discipline area would require completion of an additional credentials application including review by the appropriate Campus Credentials Review Committee (see next section). In other cases, a single credentials application would be sufficient, e.g., a transfer assignment (T) status in computer science would cover all non-transfer (N) status teaching assignments under the Computer Programming and Analysis area, or a transfer assignment (T) status in English, reading or mathematics would cover all college prep teaching assignments (D) status under these areas. |

| 3. | Transfer of Review Materials to the Credentials Review Committee
Upon completion the Credit Faculty Credentials Review Packet (application, transcripts, other appropriate documentation, writing sample) should be immediately forwarded to the office designated for processing and assignment to the Campus Credentials Review Committee. |
| 4. | Credentials Review Committee Assessment Members of each campuses Credentials Review Committee will examine individual credentials packets for compliance with Faculty requirements and guidelines, Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools ( SACS). Formal meetings will be held to discuss any inconsistencies on assessment of individual cases and a committee recommendation on an applicant's credentialing status will be communicated to the campus provost. A generic form (Credentials Review Committee Cover Sheet) has been developed to record and transfer this information. |
| 5.
|
Review by Provost Each campus provost will review Credentials Review Committee recommendations on the status of individual applicants. Approved packets earmarked as transfer (T), non-transfer (N) or college prep (D) will be forwarded to the Credentials Secretary for database input and submission to Human Resources as an official record. |
| 6. | Alternative Credentialing (AC) Review Applications Packets earmarked for Alternative Credentialing (AC) Review based on other documented qualifications will be forwarded to the College Faculty Credentials Oversight Committee for additional assessment. If approved, original applications will be signed by the committee chair and processed by Human Resources. Final signed copies of credentials materials, including data sheets, forms and writing samples will be sent to the appropriate academic division. |
