The Flashlight Project
What do you want to find out from your students? How can you quickly gather
information from colleagues in order to make a decision? Well, Flashlight may be
the answer.
Flashlight is an internet-based survey system used to gather and
analyze information to enhance learning with technology. We, as Valencia
employees, have access to this program through a licensing agreement. To access
the system, you will need a user name and password. Email Angelique Smith at AngSmith@valenciacc.edu to get your account established.
Before you start to create an assessment in Flashlight, it is important to do
some pre-planning. The system has two important drawbacks. The first is lack of
spell-check. This tool may be added in the future as the system is undergoing
constant upgrades. Second, some aspects of the survey questions are difficult to
edit after they have been added to the survey. This makes pre-planning your
survey very important. The worksheet on the next page is designed to help you do
this. Several sample question types follow it. You will have to decide on the
question format (multiple choice, open-ended, etc.) BEFORE you can start to
enter the questions. You can mix question types in the same survey. Flashlight
does have a question bank available. A table of contents of the question bank is
provided in this packet.
