BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Vicente Aleixandre was a Spanish poet little known outside of his native country prior to winning the 1977 Nobel Prize for literature.  A member of the advent garde group, "The Generation of 1927," Aleixandre's poor health heavily influenced his writings and outlook on life.  (Biography Resource Center)
